One of my favorite things about the Educational Technology courses is the way in which they combine the two. During this course, Project Management, we had to respond to a “Request for Proposal” or a RFP. To effectively do this, we had to perform an in-depth analysis of their company to determine exactly what they needed to complete their mission. Then we had to do to determine our goals and objectives based on our mission. These objectives were supported by various learning theories and even became part of our response in the appendices section. Such a process provided our response with merit and validation.
Our proposal also included timelines, budgets, awards, past project management jobs – it was very extensive. Our final product or “Solution Model” was a complex system complete with job aids, reusable learning templates (RLTs), curriculum enhancements, videos and a complete content management system.
Another interesting concept about this class is that we were taught simultaneously with the on-line class. In the beginning, it took some getting used to, but now I can’t imagine the class without them.
This course will be invaluable to me in my future managerial roles in both the military and civilian sectors by allowing me to track projects from the beginning to the end, including all the phases in between.
